Sidney Crosby's return could not prevent the Pittsburgh Penguins falling to a 4-3 defeat at the hands of the New York Islanders - a result which levels their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series at 1-1.

Crosby had missed 13 games through injury but scored twice in the first period - either side of Matt Moulson's reply for New York and after Evgeni Malkin's opener as Pittsburgh went 3-1 ahead.

But New York tied it back up in the second period through Colin McDonald and Matt Martin before Kyle Okposo won it in the third.

Carey Price made 29 saves and Ryan White, Brendan Gallagher and Michael Ryder all scored at the other end as the Montreal Canadiens tied their series with the Ottawa Senators at 1-1 with a 3-1 victory.

The Chicago Blackhawks have taken a 2-0 lead over the Minnesota Wild as Patrick Sharp and Michael Frolik each scored twice in a 5-2 victory.

Bryan Bickell got the fifth when he scored into an empty net late on. Josh Harding had 43 saves in the losing cause for Minnesota.

The San Jose Sharks took a 2-0 lead over the Vancouver Canucks with a 3-2 overtime win.

Raffi Torres got the deciding goal after Patrick Marleau scored late in the third to force the extra period, with Vancouver having turned around an early deficit with two goals from Ryan Kesler.
