David Ragan snatches thrilling victory at Talladega Speedway
David Ragan pulled off a shock victory in the Aaron's 499 in a dramatic weather-hit Sprint Cup race at the Talladega Speedway.
With light fading fast after a three-and-a-half hour rain delay, Ragan slipped past Carl Edwards on the 192nd and final lap to take the checkered flag.
Ragan was aided by a push from Front Row Motorsports team-mate David Gilliland, who also edged past Edwards to snatch second place.
The race had been marred by heavy rain and a horrific crash in the late stages when Kurt Busch's car took to the air and landed on Ryan Newman after earlier contact between Ricky Stenhouse Jnr and JJ Yeley.
Matt Kenseth finished a disappointing eighth despite leading for 142 laps as he struggled to control his car in the damp and dark conditions.
Jimmie Johnson was second among the lap leaders with 16, and he went on to finish fifth to retain his lead over Edwards in the Sprint Cup standings.
Edwards is 41 points behind, while Dale Earnhardt Jnr moved up to third despite finishing down in 17 place at Talladega.
