FA Cup final: Roberto Martinez hails the efforts of Wigan heroes at Wembley
Roberto Martinez was bursting with pride after seeing Wigan Athletic make history as they edged out Manchester City to lift the FA Cup.
The Latics, who are battling for their Premier League lives, defied the odds at Wembley Stadium on Saturday to collect a 1-0 win.
Ben Watson nodded home the only goal of the game in stoppage-time to hand Wigan victory in their first final appearance and earn them major silverware.
Martinez, who has spent four incident-packed years at the Latics helm, was quick to pay tribute to the collective effort put in by everyone connected with the club as they toasted a remarkable success.
He told ESPN: "It's incredible. We always speak about the FA Cup and chasing that dream and following that dream, and that's Wigan Athletic.
"To win the FA Cup is momentous. It's about how we've done it, we have got a fantastic group of players and they have got an incredible sense of bravery and an incredible sense of belief.
"The whole town believed in us and it's a very fitting moment to finish what has been an incredible attachment for our chairman (Dave Whelan) with the FA Cup tournament.
"We never lack confidence. Sometimes we lose games because we are brave and we leave ourselves a bit exposed.
"This group of players only know one way of playing and we play a very good style and I'm just so proud of them because they deserve it.
"It's impossible to put into words. This is why you are involved in football. It's an incredible journey."
