Chicago Blackhawks register convincing win over the Detroit Red Wings
The Chicago Blackhawks threw down a marker in the opening game of Western Conference semi-final series as they beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 at United Center.
Johnny Oduya and Marcus Kruger scored just over three minutes apart midway through the third period to turn the game in Chicago's favour, breaking a 1-1 tie after Marian Hossa's opener had been cancelled out by Damien Brunner.
Patrick Sharp sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final minute, ensuring Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard finished on the losing side despite having made 38 saves.
