Brad Marchand's overtime winner gave the Boston Bruins the early advantage over the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference semi-final.

Marchand netted from Patrice Bergeron's assist with 4:20 left in the first overtime at TD Garden to secure a 3-2 victory.

Zdeno Chara and rookie Torey Krug had netted for the hosts during regulation, with Ryan McDonagh and Derek Stepan on target for New York, who have now failed to win in overtime during this season's play-offs.

The San Jose Sharks took a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference semi-final series against the Los Angeles Kings thanks to a last-gasp 4-3 win.

Captain Dustin Brown and Trevor Lewis scored 22 seconds apart in the final two minutes to swing a topsy-turvy game back in the Kings' favour.

Jeff Carter and Drew Doughty had given Los Angeles a 2-0 lead at Staples Center. Goals from Patrick Marleau, Brad Stuart and Marc-Edouard Vlasic then looked to have set the Sharks on course to level the series before the dramatic late twist.
