Sony Open: Andy Murray defeats Richard Gasquet to reach final in Miami
Andy Murray will play David Ferrer in the final of the ATP Sony Open after fighting back from a set down to defeat Richard Gasquet 6-7 (3-7) 6-1 6-2 in Miami.
Murray, the second seed, started slowly and eighth-seed Gasquet took a 3-0 lead in the first set thanks to a break of serve in the second game.
However, British No 1 Murray hit back to level at 3-3 and a second break enabled him to serve for the set, but he failed to take the chance and the Frenchman sent it into a tie-break which he won 7-3 with some superb shots to claim the set in 52 minutes.
Murray shrugged off this reverse and totally dominated the second set, reeling off five successive games to level the match after only another 28 minutes.
Gasquet required treatment on his right foot before the decider and it looked all over when Murray broke again in the first game of the set.
The Scot failed to seize his chance immediately as a double fault allowed Gasquet to break back, but the Frenchman's serve then let him down again with two double faults to hand the advantage back to Murray.
There was no way back for Gasquet this time and Murray served out to win the match in one hour and 58 minutes after securing a third break in the seventh game.
Murray will now become the world No 2 if he beats Spaniard Ferrer, who also rallied from a set down to defeat Tommy Haas in the other semi-final, on Sunday.
