Kyle Busch holds off Martin Truex Jr to win the NRA 500
Kyle Busch completed a weekend sweep with victory in the NRA 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Busch made the most of a late caution to regain the lead on pit road and then held on for the last 16 laps to add to his success in Friday night's Nationwide Series race, securing the seventh dual victory of his career.
The Joe Gibbs Racing star, who also won both races at Fontana last month, led eight times for 171 of 334 laps, and he became the first driver to win in all three series having also won twice there in his truck.
Martin Truex Jr finished second, coming so close to ending a winless streak that stretches back to June 2007, with Carl Edwards taking third ahead of his Roush Fenway team-mate Greg Biffle.
"As soon as that caution came, my boys stepped up the plate and hit a grand slam," said Busch, who was winning a 27th Sprint Cup race.
"'To be in Victory Lane in Texas, there's nothing better. If it wasn't for my pit crew, which is the most awesome group ever. Man, those guys were just awesome. They put together a heck of a stop to give us that lead. These cars are amazing to drive. They're fast. They're fun."
Sprint Cup leader Jimmie Johnson finished in sixth place, but that was enough to add a few more precious points to his advantage over Brad Keselowski, who took ninth.
With the victory, Busch moved up a place to third and is only 18 points off Johnson, but the big loser on the day was Dale Earnhardt Jr, who came home four laps down in 29th and dropped from third overall to sixth.
