Roger Tuivasa-Sheck called up by New Zealand for Anzac Test against Australia
Sydney Roosters winger Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has been called up by New Zealand for Friday's Anzac Test against Australia in Canberra - the only uncapped player in the 19-man squad.
The teenager was called up by coach Stephen Kearney, with the return of team-mate Sonny Bill Williams put on hold due to injury and former Wigan half-back Thomas Leuluai left out.
While the loss of Williams is a blow for Kearney's side, he is confident 19-year-old Tuivasa-Sheck will make an impact.
"Roger has been on our radar for a while," he said. "He's a Kiwi with a very bright future."
New Zealand Warriors half-back Shaun Johnson, who is the logical replacement for stand-off Benji Marshall, suffered a knee injury during his side's defeat by Canberra on Saturday and adds further injury woe to Kearney's side.
Newcastle Knights' Jeremy Smith is also a doubt as he faces the possibility of suspension after being placed on report for a head slam in the club's win over Penrith.
Along with news of Friday's Test team, it has also been announced that New Zealand's high performance manager Tony Kemp has resigned from his job, with his role for Friday's Test to be taken up by the team's assistant coach Tony Iro.
NZRL chief executive Phil Holden said in a statement: "Tony leaves the NZRL after three years to pursue new opportunities, he created a legacy that will endure for some time."
