Eredivisie: Twente beat FC Groningen 3-2 and Utrecht defeated Heerenveen 2-1
FC Twente and FC Utrecht will meet for a place in next season's Europa League after they secured respective 3-2 and 2-1 second-leg victories in Sunday's Eredivisie play-offs.
Twente won 4-2 on aggregate against FC Groningen after a 3-2 triumph on Sunday afternoon.
Defending a 1-0 lead from the away leg, Twente's Edson Braafheid fired his side ahead after 12 minutes, although the defender undid his good work by putting through his own net midway through the half.
Andraz Kirm (26) hit a second for Groningen, but Twente made sure of the win through Felipe Gutierrez (83) and Nacer Chadli (90).
Utrecht were also defending a 1-0 lead from their away leg against Heerenveen and never looked in danger of relinquishing their advantage as a brace by Jens Toornstra (nine and 82) set them on their way to a 2-1 win on Sunday, 3-1 on aggregate.
Mark Uth hit Heerenveen's consolation in added time.
Elsewhere, VVV-Venlo's demotion to the second tier was confirmed as they slumped to a 3-0 home defeat against Go Ahead Eagles in the promotion/relegation play-offs
The Eagles only finished sixth in the Eerste Divisie but could yet claim an unexpected place in the top flight, with goals by Jarchinio Antonia (14), Quincy Promes (81) and Marnix Kolder (89) seeing them to a 4-0 aggregate win.
Roda JC, who found themselves alongside VVV in the Eredivisie relegation play-off zone, avoided the same fate as they emphatically dispatched De Graafschap 6-1 for a 7-2 aggregate win.
Jordan Garcia-Calvete fired De Graafschap ahead to give the team from the second tier the aggregate lead, but it was one-way traffic after that, with a brace by Sanharib Malki and a Frank Demouge effort putting Roda 3-1 up at the break.
Malki completed his hat-trick two minutes after the restart, while Mitchell Donald's brace added gloss to the scoreline.
Eerste Divisie runners-up FC Volendam won 3-1 over MVV for a 4-1 aggregate scoreline, Michiel Kramer (44), Ludcinio Marengo (80) and Robert Muhren (90) with the goals. Mark Veldmate hit MVV's consolation.
Sparta Rotterdam, who finished third in the second tier, are also through after drawing 1-1 with Helmond Sport for a 5-3 aggregate win. Toni Varela put Sparta ahead 55 minutes before Emrullah Guvenc levelled late on.
The line up for the final round of relegation/promotion play-offs sees Go Ahead Eagles face Volendam and Sparta play Roda.
