Republic of Ireland's Robbie Keane a doubt for Tuesday's qualifier against Austria
Republic of Ireland's Robbie Keane is in a race to be fit for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier with Austria because of a calf injury.
The Los Angeles Galaxy striker suffered the knock in Friday's goalless draw in Sweden and is still awaiting news of a scan he received over the weekend.
Keane did attend the training session in Malahide on Sunday morning, but was unable to participate with his team-mates.
Manager Giovanni Trapattoni remains hopeful that his experienced captain will be available to lead the team out against the Austrians in Dublin.
The Italian said: "Robbie is having a scan on his calf. He has a little bit of
pain, but the scan will clarify the situation. I think he can play, but we will
wait for the decision after this scan.
"Robbie played very, very well in Sweden and his experience has been important. I think he can be ready."
Midfielder Glenn Whelan, who missed the game in Stockholm with an ankle problem, was able to train.
