Tampa Bay Lightning beat New Jersey Devils to give Jon Cooper victory on coaching debut
Jon Cooper celebrated a win on his NHL coaching debut as Tampa Bay snatched a 5-4 shootout victory over New Jersey.
The Devils were just 15 seconds away from victory when Alex Killorn smashed in a dramatic equaliser to force the extra period.
With the scores still tied after overtime, Teddy Purcell and Victor Hedman both netted in the subsequent shootout to seal two points for the Lightning.
Steven Stamkos took his NHL-leading goal tally to 25 with a brace for Tampa Bay, while Nate Thompson was also on target for Cooper's side.
Elsewhere in Friday's action, Anaheim scored their first win in five games with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chicago.
Sheldon Souray fired the winner for the Ducks with just over two minutes remaining as Blackhawks goalie Ray Emery suffered his first defeat of the season in his 13th start.
And Jaromir Jagr recorded the 1,000th assist of his stellar career as Dallas beat Minnesota 5-3 to end the Wild's seven-game winning streak.
