Elie Baup calls on Marseille players to keep fighting for Ligue 1 title
Elie Baup has urged his Marseille players to take the fight to Paris Saint-Germain after they moved into second place in Ligue 1 with a 1-0 win over Nice.
A first-half Andre-Pierre Gignac header was enough to claim all three points for the visitors on Sunday and their first win in three saw them leapfrog Lyon and move seven points behind the leaders.
"We've still got eight matches to play and we'll have to fight until the end," Baup told the Ligue 1 website.
"There'll be tense matches like this one and we'll need to keep fighting.
"Beating a direct rival like Nice wasn't easy but it was necessary.
"We defended well in order to hold on to our advantage. We rediscovered our defensive solidity, especially from set-pieces, and that augurs well for the remaining matches."
A third defeat in four meant Nice missed a great opportunity to move up to fourth, putting a large dent in their Champions League aspirations.
Claude Puel's men hit the post and had a goal chalked off for offside and the manager was pleased with his side's performance in defeat.
He said: "We never accept losing, especially in a match in which we played pretty well.
"We didn't allow them many clear chances and it's tough losing a match you've put so much desire into. Against a defensive block that sat deep we showed up well.
"We conceded from a set-piece when we weren't in any great danger. We should at least have managed a draw in this game.
"I hope my players won't be too affected by this match after putting in a good performance."
