Friendship no issue for Faber
Urijah Faber made Scott Jorgensen tap out at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale to continue his ascension towards a UFC bantamweight title shot.
The two long-time friends squared up at the Mandalay Bay Events Centre in Las Vegas knowing victory could see their names inserted into championship contention.
After a lightning quick first round, which Faber largely dominated, Jorgensen began to find his feet and landed more shots in the third, including an elbow which rocked the "California Kid".
Faber finally made his experience count in round four, locking in a rear naked choke following a scramble which saw his training partner submit.
In the night's co-main event, Kelvin Gastelum derailed the ferocious Uriah Hall with a split decision victory to claim the TUF 17 title.
Following two explosive knockouts in the series, Hall was the heavy favourite entering the Octagon, but a succession of overhand shots and takedowns saw Gastelum make the more lasting impression on the judges.
Hall did connect with a remarkable belly to back suplex in the second, but it was Gastelum that ground out the victory to earn a six-figure UFC contract.
Elsewhere, Cat Zingano stopped Miesha Tate to earn a UFC women's bantamweight title shot against Ronda Rousey.
Travis Browne returned to winning ways with an explosive knockout of Gabriel Gonzaga and Bubba McDaniel secured a submission victory over Gilbert Smith.
