Indian Premier League: Chennai Super Kings claim top spot with narrow win
Australia's Shane Watson cracked the first century of this year's Indian Premier League, but his efforts could not prevent Rajasthan Royals falling to a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings.
The Super Kings moved to the summit of the IPL table after successfully chasing down 185-4 with one ball remaining in front of their home fans.
Watson, fresh from a sublime 61-ball 101 at the top of the order, had the chance to be a hero with the ball at the end of the match, but Dwayne Bravo (15no) took his final over for the 11 runs required for victory.
Bravo put the finishing touches to a perfectly-timed run-chase after Watson's former Australia team-mate Mike Hussey posted 88 from 51 balls to keep Chennai up with the required run-rate.
The match swung in Rajasthan Royals' favour in the 17th over, though, as Hussey and Ravinder Jadeja were run out and clean bowled in quick succession.
MS Dhoni then departed with 11 runs required from six balls, but Bravo held his nerve with an audacious six over extra cover before adding the winning runs off the penultimate ball.
Defeat was tough on Watson, who, just days after stepping down as captain of Australia's Test side, let his batting do the talking with a stunning century.
The powerful all-rounder struck six boundaries and as many maximums to help Rajasthan take control - only Ravi Ashwin (2-20) of the Chennai attack exerting any element of control.
But Chennai sent their home fans home happy with a win which leapfrogs the men in yellow above Sunrisers Hyderabad and RCB into top spot.
