Australia paceman Ryan Harris is expected to be fit for the Ashes, despite flying home from India with an Achilles injury.

Harris sustained the problem in his left foot while on Indian Premier League duty with Kings XI Punjab but Cricket Australia (CA) is confident he will recover in time for the summer showpiece, as well as Australia A's preceding tour of the British Isles.

CA chief medical officer Justin Paoloni said: "Ryan Harris has returned from IPL duties with Kings XI Punjab with a left Achilles tendon injury.

"Scans showed the injury was not serious and he will undergo intensive rehabilitation with the aim of him being available to take part in the Australia A Series and we expect he will be fit to play in the Ashes."

CA also believes Mitchell Starc, another injury-prone fast bowler, will recover from ankle surgery in time to play in the Champions Trophy, which starts in early June.

Paoloni added: "Mitchell Starc is recovering as expected from arthroscopic ankle surgery.

"Currently he is meeting all clinical timeframes and with this progress the target is to play ICC Champions Trophy and then the Ashes."

The first Ashes Test gets under way at Trent Bridge on 10 July.
