An overtime winner from Damien Brunner helped Detroit Red Wings beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 and level their Western Conference quarter-final series.

The Red Wings twice came from behind, with Brendan Smith and then Pavel Datsyuk netting to force overtime after Matt Beleskey and David Steckel had scored for the Ducks.

And Brunner settled the tie, with the series now tied at 2-2.

The first-play-off game in Toronto since 2004 ended in disappointment for the home fans as the Maple Leafs were beaten 5-2 by the Boston Bruins.

Adam McQuaid, Rich Peverley, Nathan Horton, Daniel Paille and David Krejci scored the goals for Boston, who went 2-1 up in the series.

Jake Gardiner and Phil Kessel scored for Toronto.

The New York Rangers ended a scoreless stretch of over two hours to beat the Washington Capitals 4-3.

Brian Boyle, Derick Brassard, Arron Asham and Derek Stepan scored for the Rangers, who had gone 124 minutes without scoring stretching back to the first period of game one and cut the series deficit to 2-1.

Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams scored in the third period as the Los Angeles Kings rallied for a 4-3 win over the St Louis Blues.

Jeff Carter and Dustin Penner also scored for the Kings, who levelled the series at 2-2.
