Created in 1919, the Memorial Cup is presented annually to the best team in Major Junior hockey. Named by Captain Jim Sutherland, a veteran of World War I who served as President of the Ontario Hockey Association, the Memorial Cup is a tribute to those whose lives were lost in the Great War, including many young Canadian hockey players.
