China Open snooker: Home favourite Ding Junhui dumped out by Barry Hawkins
Ding Junhui left the home crowd at the China Open disappointed as he suffered a 5-3 first-round defeat to Barry Hawkins.
Ding did well to at least make a fight of the contest having gone 4-0 down, but could not completely recover from the huge deficit.
Hawkins, who posted a break of 108, had a chance to put the local hero to bed in the sixth frame but missed routine green and pinks, allowing Ding the chance to make the scoreline respectable.
There was further disappointment for the home fans as Lyu Haotian also went out, going down 5-2 to two-time world champion Mark Williams.
Another former Crucible winner, Ken Doherty, went out as he was seen off 5-2 by Ricky Walden, while Mark Davis ground out a 5-3 success over Dechawat Poomjaeng.
