Gary Anderson and Wes Newton fell through the Premier League trapdoor as they both suffered defeats in round nine of the season in Brighton.

The pair were unable to add to their tally of five points and move out of the bottom two places in the eight-man table, meaning they are relegated under the tournament's new format.
Newton's hopes of pulling off a great escape on 'Judgement Night' down by the sea were dashed by a 7-5 loss to Andy Hamilton.

'The Warrior' simply never got going in such a crucial contest despite coming into the latest round of fixtures off the back of his success at the European Darts Trophy at the weekend.

After the first six legs had gone with throw Hamilton secured the first break to go 4-3 ahead, then doubled his lead by taking out double eight with his opponent well behind.

Newton did battle bravely until the end, forcing a final leg when he checked out 102. However, 'The Hammer' finished him off with double 16, handing his good friend a sixth defeat in nine outings.
Double trouble

As for Anderson, his 7-3 loss to James Wade summed up his season; while he had no problems with his scoring, double trouble once again cost him dear.

The Scot - a former Premier League champion having lifted the trophy in 2011 - did level matters at two apiece with a 121 finish on the bull - only for his rival to respond with a 124 checkout that was completed with double 11.

Wade then went 4-2 ahead thanks to double 10 and although Anderson managed an 11-darter to get within one, he then lost the next three legs to finish bottom of the standings for a second successive year.

Wade, in contrast, now tops the table. The results also mean Adrian Lewis and Simon Whitlock live to fight another day in the battle to reach the knockout stages.
