England bowl New Zealand out for 443 as Steve Finn takes six wickets

England's hopes of a series win in New Zealand suffered a setback when they lost two early wickets after Steve Finn had helped bowl them back into contention in the third Test.

Having dominated the opening day in Auckland to reach 250-1 after being put into bat, the Black Caps lost their last nine wickets for 183 runs to be bowled out for 443.

Finn led the recovery mission for the tourists with 6-125, his final figures helped by a late burst of four wickets in 14 balls to help wrap up the innings shortly after tea.

By the close England had crawled to 50-2 in reply, Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott, who had earlier taken a rare Test wicket, the two batsmen to depart.

At least the tourists still have hope; they looked in danger of being batted out of the game when they resumed in the morning but showed their fighting spirit with the ball, starting with James Anderson dismissing Kane Williamson for 91.

Ross Taylor added some impetus to the Kiwi innings with a six and a four off Monty Panesar, only to then perish in the same over in rather tame fashion when he chipped a return catch to the spinner.
When Peter Fulton's seven-and-a-half hour vigil was ended by Finn when the opener had 136 to his name, the score was 297-4 and England sensed a chance to force collapse.

That might have been the case had Brendon McCullum (38) not successfully overturned an 'out' decision with the help of DRS. The reprieve allowed him to go on and add 68 in tandem with Dean Brownlie before Trott tempted him into one drive too many, getting the home skipper caught behind.

Brownlie fell to Anderson for 36 - taking the Lancashire seamer to 297 Test scalps - and then Finn demolished the tail, including ending Tim Southee's late cameo on 44 after the No 8 had hit two sixes and four fours. Wicketkeeper Matt Prior finished the innings with five catches.

However, bowling a slightly fuller length than England, New Zealand's seamers found some life in the pitch when it came to their turn. Trent Boult was particularly impressive, taking both wickets to fall.The left-armer was a little fortunate with his dismissal of Cook, though, as the England captain got a slight tickle on a leg-side delivery that was snaffled by wicketkeeper BJ Watling.

Trott (27), in contrast, was trapped right in front of his stumps by a ball that came back into him, though that didn't stop the Warwickshire batsman from using up a referral in what can only of been hope more than expectation.

The double strike meant Nick Compton (12 not out) and Ian Bell, who had six to his name, were forced to dig in to reach 50-2 by stumps at Eden Park.
