Late rally denies the Boston Bruins an emotional victory
The Buffalo Sabres denied the Boston Bruins an emotional win following a late rally at the TD Gardens.
The Bruins, who were returning to action following Monday's Marathon bombings, had led 2-1 with 27 seconds left following goals from Daniel Paille and Chris Kelly.
However Cody Hodgson levelled matters, before Drew Stafford netted the only goal in the shoot-out to seal a 3-2 win for the Sabres.
A first-period blitz helped the Pittsburgh Penguins secure a 6-4 win over the Montreal Canadiens.
The Calgary Flames hit back to record a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings.
Steve Begin (2) and Lee Stempniak were on target for the Flames, with Gustav Nyquist and Johan Franzen netting for Red Wings.
The Columbus Blue Jackets kept their own play-off hopes alive with a 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center - Fedor Tyutin's overtime goal proving decisive.
