ATP Portugal Open: David Ferrer remains on course for Estoril title
World number four David Ferrer safely booked his place in the semi-finals of the Portugal Open courtesy of a 6-4 7-6 (7/2) victory over Victor Hanescu.
The Spaniard has already claimed two titles in 2013 and is the top seed in this week's French Open warm-up event in Estoril.
Romania's Hanescu provided a stern test for Ferrer, who will face Andreas Seppi in Saturday's semi-finals after the Italian overcame Spanish veteran Tommy Robredo 6-4 6-3 in his quarter-final.
In the other semi-final, Stanislas Wawrinka will take on Pablo Carreno.
Wawrinka, the Swiss number two, beat Gastao Elias 6-4 6-4 in his last eight match, while Carreno battled back from a set down to trump Fabio Fognini 3-4 6-4 6-4.
